 Hello all you '56 Mustangs!

As promised, your reunion committee has been hard at work, and we've got a fun-filled weekend planned: two dinner parties, a tour of our alma mater and free time for you to visit with old friends and rediscover Memphis.

LODGING
The University of Memphis Holiday Inn (http://www.wilsonhotels.com/hiuom/hiuom.html) will hold a block of rooms at a special discounted rate until April 1, 2006. This is a suite-only hotel, and our rate is $105.00 per night, plus tax (15.95%). The hotel is located at 3700 Central Avenue, across from the University of Memphis. For reservations call 901 678-8200 or 800 HOLIDAY (800 465-4329) and tell them you are with the East High Class of '56 reunion.

This will be a casual event in George and Cecile's home and garden—a great chance to meet and greet each other. (And Memphis Barbeque is probably better than you remember it!)

Saturday, June 3, 2006—Day
You will be on your own until the evening dinner and free to visit with each other, tour your old alma mater and get to know the new Memphis. Consider these options:

  • Visit some of our museums—Dixon Gallery and Gardens, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, Memphis Botanic Gardens, National Ornamental Metal Museum, Stax Museum of American Soul Music, National Civil Rights Museum, Memphis Pink Palace, Mallory-Neely House or Mageveny House.
  • The Memphis Zoo is a special treat—see our two panda bears munching bamboo in the China Exhibit or watch our two polar bears swimming and frolicking under water.
  • Of course, there's always Elvis's House, Graceland. You can even book your tickets early, www.elvis.com.
  • Enjoy an English tea while you watch the duck parade in the Peabody then walk a few blocks down to Beale Street.
  • Explore the downtown renaissance—elegant Harbor Town homes on Mud Island or along South Bluff. If you have time (about two hours), take a river cruise and view the beautiful South Bluff homes facing the river.
