The 1999 Reunion Reviewed [updated June 12, 1999] - The East High Class of 1959 celebrated its "second twenty year reunion" in fine style the weekend of June 11 and 12, 1999. About 50 alumni attended the reunion events, just more than 30% of the class' 159 graduating seniors. Friday night kicked off the festivities with a Casual Patio Party at the home of class member Dr. Charles Safley. Simply stated, it appeared many were joyous at seeing classmates again. Attendance was very good, with just about all the alumni registered to attend the reunion events showing up, along with spouses and guests. Saturday night celebration moved to Justine's for social hour, a barbecue dinner, and dance featuring a DJ playing 50's music. Again, attendance was about as expected from advance registrations. An informal inquiry indicated the class member traveling the most to participate was Toni Madden Peters, who came from Seattle. Factulty members noticed in attendance included Mrs. Margaret Taylor on Friday night and Mrs. Lilburne Vollmer on Saturday night. The "second twenty year reunion" appeared to provide fun for all those in attendance. [the following posted April 24, 1999] - The East High Class of 1959 announces a "Second Twenty-Year Reunion" to be held June 11-12, 1999. The weekend's gathering features two evening events. A casual patio party on Friday night and a social-dinner-dance on Saturday evening. Class members should contact Joan Jefferson Kling for more information and to make arrangements to attend. Reunion Events Friday, June 11, 1999 6:30 pm - Casual Patio Party at the home of Dr. Charlie Safley Saturday, June 12, 1999 6pm at Justine's Restaurant, 919 Coward Place, Memphis: 6pm - Social hour 7pm - Barbecue Dinner 8pm - Dance - featuring a DJ playing those good old '50's tunes. $50 per class member, $75 for class member and guest Price includes both evenings' events.
