[Updated June 1, 2022]

I went to the school today to finalize everything with the school principal and found out some other good stuff.  We will be able to use the school library during the reunion.  You can go through the school office, and it opens directly into the library.  What I noticed is that there is some nice seating and tables that people can gather around and talk.  Don’t forget it is big open area and it is cooler than most of the school.  With the number of people attending, it will be great to have some nice cool quiet place to talk and visit.

Next, when come into the building you will see a table with 3 young ladies there to fix your name badge.  It is large and will be worn around you neck.  This is also where you pay your lunch fee of $15.00 in cash.  If you feel so inclined to leave a tip to help defray and the extra cost, it would be greatly appreciated.  It is your decision.

In the cafeteria there are 40 large round tables that seat 8 people with a bench type seat making up a complete unit.  That makes up a total of 320 seating capacity.  No tables and chairs like the old days.  There is no way I will be able to reserve seating by classes.  If people want to sit together, they will have to work that out themselves.  I am meeting with the caters tomorrow and they plan to have 2 food lines open around 11:30 or so.

Restrooms are located down the main hall all the way to the end going west.  The Men is just on the left and go around the corner to the left and the Women is there see map below.

You will be free to tour around the school and check out the places you remember.  East High is under construction and renovation and there will be stuff in the halls.  It is what it is and we are lucky just to be able look around. Everybody should be very careful and especially going up and down the many steps we conquered when we were young.  Do I need to remind you of our age NOW?  Make sure we all help one another so we don’t have any mishaps.

In the Gym we can all listen to some oldie but goodies music at a reasonable volume and the ones that feel like dancing can have at it.  Please no dirty dancing you older folks, there will be some younger alumni attending in their lower 70’s and you don’t want to teach them any of your dirty tricks. We have the school till 2:30 and it will be over. It has been very fun and rewarding for me to put this reunion together for everybody.  Don’t think there will be another on in the future.  Have a great time please be safe on your way home.

The final number will be approximately 270 alumni and guest.  This reunion far exceeded my expectations as to attendance.  Because of the number of people, I think it is important to understand a few things that might help us move things along as quickly as possible.

1. We have the school from 11:00 to 2:30. It would be good for everybody not to show up all at once, but rather spread it out a little as to time arriving.  The caterers will arrive at 11:00 and begin their set up. Lunch will not start before 11:30. They will then start their service with 2 food lines and not finish till everyone has been served.  There will be 3 tables with ladies signing you in to get your name badge.  During the sign in is where you will pay your $15.00 cash only for lunch.  There will be a Tip Jar on the check in, in case you feel the need to pay a little extra to help defray the additional cost incurred because of the larger than expected alumni attending the reunion.

2. We have asked Major Entrekin, the ROTC commander to help by providing 3 East ROTC cadets to be at the school to help wherever needed.  The Major will also be attending to help

3. Parking can be in one of 3 areas.  In front of school can hold 30 to 40 cars at most.  Parking behind the Gym coming off Holmes Ave. can hold approximately 30 or so cars and can access the school walking beside the auditorium. You can also use the ramp on the elementary side of the cafeteria to enter.  The largest parking area is in the rear of the school where we all parked as students.  There will be 2 large golf carts there to transport you to the front of East where you will enter.  When you leave, they will ride you back to your car.

4. Covid is still with us and probably will be for some time now.  There are no mask mandates, and you can wear or not wear your mask. If you are sick or have any of the symptoms, please stay at home.

5. There will be a professional photographer around taking pictures of everybody.  Please feel free to utilize him and he will be uploading all the pictures to a web site that will be disclosed later for downloading.

6.After lunch you are free to look around the school and remember the good old days.  The gym will be open and there will be someone playing songs from the 50’s and 60’s.  There will be seating set up and great time to talk to old friends, meet old flames, tell war stories, etc.  Dancing is permitted and encouraged if you can still dance. We will keep the music low enough so we can all talk.

7. Well, we are only a few days from the big event, and I want everybody to enjoy themselves and for sure be safe.  I look forward to meeting all of you this coming Saturday.  Thanks for all the help everybody has given to making this special reunion successful.

8. Thanks  Mason Ezzell   62  [Editor's note: Mr. Ezzell is the Chief organizer of this reunion event.]

[previous information about the June 4, 2022 Reunion Event:]

We are going to have a multi-year East High School reunion here in Memphis on June 4th, 2022, for the classes from 1957 to 1966!!!!!

The reunion will be Saturday, June 4th, at 11:00 in the East High cafeteria. We will have a catered lunch provided by Germantown Commissary. Then a tour of the school will be offered, followed by a Sock Hop/mixer/get-together in the Gym, where we will all have an opportunity to talk with each other. There will be “oldies but goodies” music playing at a LOW volume in the gym.

Anyone who attends the East High Reunion should be prepared to PAY CASH AT THE DOOR FOR THEIR LUNCH. The fee for lunch will be around $15 CASH, which will cover other expenses incurred by the reunion. There will be no mechanism to pay for lunch by using a credit card, Pay Pal, Venmo, nor any other non-cash method of payment.  In addition, we will have to know in advance if you plan to attend so we can plan the food for the lunch. The deadline is May 30th.

Most of the classes have responded and they all think it will be fun having the classes together for a lunch.

A  small team of helpers from each class is working to get this done. The person from your class who organizes reunions should be your contact person to respond to.

Please send  your RSVP to ___[Contact the reunion organizer(s) for your class]________________ญญ______________  ASAP, with your

full name, address, phone number. We want to update our information file.

Are you attending?  YES or NO

If you are bringing a spouse or partner or guest, you will need to pay $30 CASH at the door.  We need to know his/her name, too.

East High Class from 1957 to 1966,

We are going to have a reunion here in Memphis on June 4th, 2022, for the classes from 1957 to 1966.  The reunion will be Saturday June 4th around 11 to 11:30. We will have a catered lunch in the East High cafeteria, then a tour of the school ending up in the Gym for what we might call a Sock Hop, mixer, get together, where we can all talk with each other.  Plans have not been completely worked out yet.

The time we spend during lunch and after, East will be open to other East High classes from 1957 to 1966.  Working on getting people from the classes who will help spread the word about the lunch and mixer that day.  I have heard from most of the classes, and they all think it will be fun having other classes together for a lunch.  I have already secured the insurance required and the permission from Shelby County, and talked with the principal, to have our get together.  I am trying to keep all this as simple as possible.  I think anyone that attends the East High Reunion should pay for lunch and that will cover the other expenses.  We will have to know in advance if you plan to attend so we will know how to plan for the lunch.   I think a fee for lunch, and all should be around $10 to $15 or there abouts.  Probably have oldies but goodies music playing at a LOW Volume in the gym.  I am going to need a small team of helpers from each class to get this done. The person from each class in charge will be your contact person to respond to. We will contact you soon as to the finial details when we get a final number of how many people will attend.

The classes of 61 and 62 will have their own nighttime functions as they are celebrating their 60th reunion.

If you do not have contact information for the organizer(s) of your class reunions, you can contact Mason Ezzell ('62) at  who will put you in contact with the appropriate organizer of your class reunion activities.

FRIDAY NIGHT

We would like to have some Memphis classmates bring an appetizer to Vance's house on Friday night. If you are willing to do that, call Sue Hyde Crabtree at 761-2120 or . The party starts at 6:30 pm and supper will start at approximately 7:30. There is limited parking on Vance's street (Goodwyn Green Circle), however, there is parking available along Goodwyn, which runs between Central and Southern. There will be a security guard patrolling the area. Beer, wine, water, and soft drinks will be provided. You must bring your own liquor. (Proof of age will not be verified!)

SATURDAY DAY

We are planning to visit East High on Saturday at 11:00 to tour our school.  We are also going to take a group photo with all our classmates on the steps in front of the school. After that we are all going to meet for lunch at a great restaurant in the old neighborhood at 12:00.  Cheffie’s is located at 483 Highpoint Terrace, which is off Walnut Grove across the street from Galloway Golf course. It is in our old neighborhood where a lot of us grew up, and only 1.5 miles from East. This lunch will be free to all and will be a great way to spend more time catching up with each other. If you plan on visiting East High and having lunch afterwards, please let us know, so we can make the plans and have the proper amount of food and beverages available.

SATURDAY NIGHT

The Saturday night get-together will be held at a Memphis Country Club from 7 pm-11 pm. It will be a buffet-style dinner. There will be a cash bar for those wanting an adult beverage. Entertainment will be provided by Alex Ward who hosted the Pig & Whistle radio show. He has a video that runs during his show that features lots of cars, performers, and products from the era, including the Sivad TV opener, Katz drug store sign, Merry Mobile film, and a ride on the original Pippin!!!. Casual attire is ok both nights.

GOLF

For those who want to play golf, we have booked tee times on Friday, October 19, at Audubon Golf Course beginning at 8:30 am. We will play a golf scramble. So even if you aren't a good player, you can contribute in a scramble. Also, ladies are welcomed to play. Let us know as soon as possible if you intend to play so we can reserve enough tee times before they're gone. Contact Chuck Williams at  or call 901-755-1976 to let him know you intend to play.

[previously posted April 27, 2012]

The reunion dates will be October 19 and 20, 2012. Since schools will be back in session you won't miss time with the kids/grandkids during summer vacation. Since these dates are past prime-time travel days, there should be no problem getting air flights for those who have to travel to Memphis.

For those who play golf there will be a golf outing at Galloway golf course on Thursday and/or Friday. Others can attend a luncheon being planned. Let us know if you are interested in either one.

A Friday night get-together will be held at Vance Thompson Willey's house beginning at 6:30 pm.  The dinner is being catered by Fins and Feathers (www.wraysfinsandfeathers.com) and includes catfish, chicken, fries, slaw, hush puppies, tea, banana pudding, and all condiments and utensils.  Beer, wine, and soft drinks will be provided; for other drinks, BYOB.

On Saturday at 11 am we will meet at East High for a tour of our alma mater. We will have our picture taken in front of the school. Don’t worry about missing this photo session because we will also have our picture taken at Saturday night’s get-together.  After the tour we will have lunch at a place to be decided later, at participant expense.

The Saturday night get-together will be held at a local country club from 7 pm-11 pm. This location was selected because everything is included in one price. Other places charge a fee for room rental, utensils, tables, food, etc. Also, there is no parking fee in their secured parking lot. It will be a buffet-style dinner. There will be a cash bar for those wanting an adult beverage. Entertainment will be provided by Alex Ward who hosted the Pig & Whistle radio show. He has a video that runs during his show that features lots of cars, performers, and products from the era, including the Sivad TV opener, Katz drug store sign, Merry Mobile film, and a ride on the original Pippin!!! Casual attire is ok both nights.

The cost for a single person is: one night - $50; 2 nights - $100. The cost for two people is: one night - $100; 2 nights - $200. Please send a $50 deposit, whether for a single person or a couple, if you plan on attending the reunion. We have already received deposits from many classmates. The next deposit (probably in August) will be the additional $50 for a single person or $150 for a couple. The deposit is refundable if cancellation is made by October 1. For planning purposes we really need to know now if you plan on attending. Please respond to this e-mail and send your deposit. If you do not plan on attending, let us know that also.

Please make check payable to "East High Reunion Class of 62" and send check to:

Class of '62,

Our next 50-year reunion planning meeting will be held at 7:00 pm, Monday, February 6, at the home of Willis and Vance Thompson Willey at 3031 Goodwyn Green Circle. West of the Pink Palace at the intersection of Central and Goodwyn, go south one block and then turn left at the gates at the first street, Goodwyn Green Circle. It is a gated community but the gate will be open for us to enter. Their house is in the corner.

If you have some ideas/suggestions about dates, location, meals, refreshments, music, etc., please attend and let us know. If you just want to see what goes on, that's fine too. This is your chance to have some input into what happens during our 50-year reunion. Please tell classmates who don't have internet about the meeting. Also, East High has a web site at http://easthigh.org/ which has lots of information about our school and alumni.

E-mail me at any time, or call Vance at 573-5544 after January 23, if you plan on attending.

See yall on the 6th,

Glen

The first meeting of our 50-year reunion committee was held last night at Mason Ezzell's house.

Classmates in attendance were:
Mason Ezzell
Elise Kroell Griffin
Jackie Boston Taylor
Elise McDonald Williams
Sharon Scott Cornelius
Vance Thompson Willey
Chuck Williams
Sue Hyde Crabtree
Denny Koehn
Glen Stewart
Gary Stewart
Helen Levy Tower

Various issues were discussed including locations, events, food, costs, and dates.

A Friday night get-together will be held at Vance Thompson Willey's house. Various places are being contacted for Saturday night. Food will probably be catered each night. There may be a golf outing Friday if there are enough golfers interested. An oldie-singing duo is being considered for entertainment as opposed to a band, since the duo would be quieter and classmates would be able to mingle and talk. The dress would be casual both nights.

The dates will probably be October 19 and 20, 2012. This may change due to getting a place for the Saturday night get-together (but probably not). Since schools will be back in session you won't miss time with the kids/grandkids during summer vacation. And this is past prime-time travel days, so there should be no problem getting air flights.

The costs will probably be $75-100 per person for both nights.

We'll have more definite information when we meet again in January.

If you have any photos, send them to me and I'll forward them to Mason who will create a video presentation of them.

The following classmates have not been found. If you have any info as to their whereabouts such as last known location, e-mails, their kids, or grandkids, send it to me and I will try to find them.

Mary K. Allen Blyn
Pat Ann Baldwin
Judy Ann Kinter
Patricia Laws
Mary Jo Milligan Trudeau
Linda Gay Paul Briggs
Carol Ann Sieber
Diane Hudson Talbert
Robert Almer White
Marion Beaty Word

Since our last reunion in October 2002, the following classmates have passed away:

Barbara Bell McDonough - 4/19/08
Gogi White Stemmler - 4/19/09
Sarah Jane Nichols Hill - 8/28/09
Martha Jo Fly Dickerson - 4/10/11
Harmon Williams - 7/18/11

If you have never attended a reunion, you should attend the 50th one for sure. If you know someone who has never attended a reunion, please call them and try to get them to attend this one. Some of the class of '61 have expressed an interest in attending our 50th reunion. And you don't want to miss 94-year old Mrs. Taylor.

Glen

More than 150 photographs of reunion events!

October, 2002 - The Class of 1962 of East High School organized an excellent reunion weekend October 3-5, 2002. Celebrating the 40 year anniversary of their graduation, class members had two evening parties and golfing on at least two days. For the Saturday night event, members of the Class of '61 were invited to join in the fun and a considerable number did so.
Overall the attendance registrations approached 170 people, with about 70 members from the Class of '62.
Class group photographs were taken of the Class of '62 and the Class of '61. Video was taken, including class member interviews, also. Contact members of your Reunion Committee to make arraignments if you wish to obtain copies of those products.

Class members that wish to submit photographs of reunion events or text based accounts of the reunion to be included here (subject to our normal editorial policies) are welcome to do so. Contact us at editor@EastHigh.org

Below are pictures of the Class of 1962 Reunion Committee organizing sessions for the 40-year reunion. These are the people that put together such a good event.

The following classmates still need to be located: Pat Baldwin, Judy Ann Kinter, Carole Ann Sieber, Diane Talbert, Robert A. White, Marion Word, John A. Henry, Kathy Allen Blyn, Gay Paul Briggs, Mary Jo Milligan Trudeau, Jackie Boston Guthrie
